In this seminar, we will learn how to color manage productions for Film and Episodic TV using Academy Color Encoding System. ACES is an industry-standard, accessible, and open-sourced color management system that is device-independent. It has become the first choice color management system for most Netflix and Disney productions. Having an in-depth knowledge of the whole process has become essential for all post-production team members.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
We will learn how ACES works and what the main components are. We will start with ACES on-set to see how to deal with ACES metadata coming from set, how to import CDLs and set all the pipelines for dailies. Next, we will move on to visual effects workflows. We will learn to export backplates in ACES 2065 or ACEScct for VFX. Following that, we will round-trip finished VFX and match all color. We will also learn how to create viewing LUTs for VFX. At the last stage, we will learn how to best configure Davinci Resolve for final grading, including HDR and Dolby Vision Mastering. We will use ACES project settings and node-based workflow for better flexibility. Further, we will learn about Look Modification Transforms and how to liberate yourself from limitations or RRT, as well as how to build excellent film sock emulation LMTs.
