What you will learn

WEEK 1 : Exploring "Asteroid City"

During our first week, students will delve into the unmistakable visual universe of “Asteroid City” directed by Wes Anderson, with cinematography by Robert Yeoman and color grading by Garth Spensley. Wes Anderson’s signature style is iconic, and the intricate art design, combined with the film’s technical development, provides a rich canvas for our study. This assignment will immerse students in understanding and replicating the aesthetic nuances that define this cinematic masterpiece.

WEEK 2 : Emulating Kodak Aerochrome from "American Born Chinese"

For our second week, we’ll immerse ourselves in the captivating TV series “American Born Chinese,” masterfully shot by Alan Poon and Brett Pavlak and color graded by the brilliant Ian Vertovec. A standout feature of this series is its emulation of the now-discontinued Kodak Aerochrome film stock, known for its distinct and mesmerizing look, often replicated today using IR filters. In a thrilling culmination to this assignment, Ian Vertovec will personally evaluate students’ work, determining the most exemplary recreations of this iconic aesthetic.
